An increase in neutrophil level is also present in pregnant woman, but is usually considered harmless. Other reasons for the abnormal increase of neutrophil include physical and mental stress, smoking, polycythemia vera, and haemolytic anemia. If there is an infection, the level of neutrophil goes up. Neutrophils are white blood cells that protect the body from infection and diseases. In a complete blood count (CBC) test, the level of neutrophils in the blood is checked. In this procedure, the patient will drink a barium liquid, which helps in visualizing the ulcer during the x-ray procedure.
